Pilot Script [Storyboard Draft Edit]

INT. DREAM FANTASY - DAY
Oliver is sitting in a chair in a dark room, spotlights go onto him, revealing that all over the walls are written the word "crazy" multiple times with arrows pointing to him.
OLIVER (V.O)
Ever since I was little people have been telling me that I'm crazy.
Turn to a back view of Oliver looking out at a surreal world. The Sun is a clock and it's reflecting over a huge body of water. There's a flower growing out of the water with an eyeball at the end.
OLIVER (V.O)
That I hallucinate or that I have an over-active imagination.
Wideshot of the entire scene, Oliver is in the middle of the water now, standing on the water, and his mother--Dawny--is standing in the distance in shadow.
OLIVER (V.O)
My mom always told me to ignore them...but after she died....
Dawny fades away, revealing Tuesday standing there instead.
OLIVER (V.O)
it seemed like my mind was the only thing that was there for me....
Oliver reaches out to Tuesday and she smiles, Oliver returns the smile. Tuesday begins to call to him.
TUESDAY
Oliver...Oliver!
A subway zooms by her and Oliver snaps out of it and realizes he's on the subway in reality. Tuesday smiles at him and the subway comes from out of a tunnel, the light revealing Tuesday being a little transparent.
Oliver doesn't offer a response.
OLIVER (V.O)
My mind...is a strange place....
CUT TO OPENING CREDITS
INT. SUBWAY - DAY
Still on the subway, Tuesday is pulling at Oliver's arm and poking him to get his attention but he's trying to listen to music ("Superfast Jellyfish" by Gorillaz).
TUESDAY
Oliver...!
Oliver gives no response.
Tuesday pokes his face.
TUESDAY
Oliver...!!!
It's clear he hears her but Oliver still tries to ignore her. But Tuesday will not be ignored.
TUESDAY
OLIVER!!!!
Oliver is clearly annoyed, but tries to bite it back until he simply can't.
OLIVER
(yelling)
Will you knock it off! You know I hate it when you do that!
Tuesday shrinks back a bit, annoyed as well, but Oliver's outburst catches the attention of the Hughbe sitting next to him. Hughbe offers him a strange look.
Oliver sighs and looks to the old woman sitting next to Tuesday, she scoots away slowly, clutching her purse close to her, looking nervous.
Oliver simply looks down, fed up with the same old reactions from people.
TUESDAY
You don't have to yell, you know.
OLIVER
(still yelling)
And you don't have to poke me!
(he sighs a bit, calming down.)
It's just, I keep telling you how crazy it makes me look in public.
TUESDAY
But I'm so bored.
Coming out of reality, Tuesday is in the center of a black room, a spotlight on her as she rants dramatically.
TUESDAY
(over dramatic)
Oh Oliver, why do you betray me, dragging me on the subway when you know I hate it...? You're so cruel.
OLIVER
Oh will you stop being a drama queen.
"Comedic" arrow labeled "drama queen" slams into Tuesday, ending her rant and going back into reality.
OLIVER
(holding his nose)
At least you don't have to smell the subway.
Oliver covers his nose, looking at the Hughbe sitting next to them, clearly stinking of fish and seawater. He glares at Oliver.
HUGHBE
At least I don't talk to myself.
The words hit Oliver kind of hard, and Oliver looks away, defeated.
Tuesday gives him a sympathetic look, though says nothing--finally behaving.
EPISODE TITLE CARD.
INT. SCHOOL HALLWAY - DAY
Oliver open's his locker, annoyed.
OLIVER
I can't believe I got detention because of you.
TUESDAY
Hey, it's not my fault you were talking to me.
As Oliver talks the crowd in the halls stops to looked at him "talking to himself".
OLIVER
Only cause you wouldn't shut up! And what are you doing up there? Get down, You're gonna fall or something.
TUESDAY
Oh come on, Ollie-bear, you know I don't fall.
(she gives a cheesy grin)
Unless it's for you of course.
Tuesday's line is extremely cheesy, but Oliver smiles anyway. He pulls her hat over her eyes.
OLIVER
You're such a dork.
Oliver looks up and sees Even staring at him, thinking that he called her a dork.
OLIVER
Oh, um...not you, Even.
Even is about to say something before Helga walks up with Delaney.
HELGA
Hey Oliver, isn't it a little early in the morning to be talking to yourself?
Oliver glares before he looks around and sees everyone staring at him, he sighs, his mood going south as he slams his locker shut.
OLIVER
(annoyed mutter)
Sorry for ruining your day.
Helga waves her hand as she as she walks away.
HELGA
Don't apologize to me. It's your sanity.
Even turns away as well, walking away.
Oliver leans against the lockers.
TUESDAY
It's okay, Oliver, they're all jerk faces, anyways.
OLIVER
Jerk faces...?
YOKO
Oliver?
Oliver immediately perks up, though Tuesday isn't as thrilled that Yoko's there.
OLIVER
Hey Yoko.
YOKO
What are you doing down there?
OLIVER
Oh you know, being emo as usual.
YOKO
Well come on emo boy.
Yoko waves a lunchbox in front of him, smiling.
YOKO (CONT.)
I packed you lunch.
INT. SCHOOL CAFETERIA - DAY
Cut to Oliver looking at the box lunch Yoko brought for him that day and grimaces, the food looks like dark, slimey noodles.
OLIVER
Uh, Yoko...what is this stuff?
YOKO
(mouth full but still motherly)
Mozuku. It's good for your immune system. Eat up.
Oliver simply stares at the food, not wanting to eat it.
TUESDAY
Ollie Bear, I know you like her, but do you have to eat the weird stuff she makes for you every day?
Oliver offers no response, but it's clear from his face that he agrees with Tuesday.
Yoko scoots a little closer to Oliver, whispering.
YOKO
So, how are things with Tuesday?
OLIVER
It's fine...if you don't count the stares and constant whispering that I can-
(yelling in a general direction of a group of girls laughing at him)
-still hear even though they think I can't!
Yoko places a hand on Oliver's shoulder before throwing a particularly creepy glare at them, static in the background. The whispering girls all shut up, chewing and cutting glares at her occasionally.
Oliver and Tuesday just stare before shrugging it off, Yoko's done it before.
YOKO(O.C)
Don't pay attention to them.
Yoko smiles blushingly.
YOKO (CONT.)
You're just a special...kind of guy....
Oliver smiles as well, flattered. But he's not exactly smooth in those types of situations so he continues the original conversation.
OLIVER
I guess. I just wish I knew why Tuesday came back all of a sudden...It's just so weird.
TUESDAY
(offended)
You make it sound like it's a bad thing.
OLIVER
(dismissive)
You know what I mean, Tuesday.
There's a bit of silence before Yoko speaks up.
YOKO
Well, you know, my aunt's a psychologist.
OLIVER
What? Really?
YOKO
Mmm hmm.
(beat)
Do..you think you might want to talk to her?
Oliver makes a sound to respond but doesn't, instead he just puts his head on the table.
YOKO
What's wrong?
OLIVER
It's just...I can't believe I'm so messed up I'm considering seeing a shrink.
Yoko leans over, putting a hand on his back.
YOKO
(aggressively "reassuring")
There's nothing wrong with therapy...it wouldn't be needed if people weren't such judgmental, stuck up, pricks....!
Yoko begins to rant, a few demons from her past boiling up, and she breaks her chop sticks as she crushes it in her palm and yanks at Oliver's shirt as she yells.
Yoko snaps out of her rant.
OLIVER
(dryly; head still on the table)
Will you please let go of my shirt.
Yoko immediately lets go.
YOKO
Sorry....
(beat)
So...I'll give you the address and tell my aunt to leave a spot open for you.
Oliver looks up and smiles at Yoko softly.
OLIVER
(softly)
Thanks Yoko
She smiles as well, looking away a bit sheepishly; trying to keep her cool. They're having a "moment".
YOKO
No problem.
Tuesday dips her head onto Oliver, breaking the moment. Yoko only reacts and looks at Oliver, as she doesn't see Tuesday.
Tuesday sits on Oliver's shoulder's, feeling possessive. Oliver's displeased, but is used to it.
YOKO
Oh, and it's probably good to pick up some mixed nuts on the way there.
OLIVER
What for?
YOKO
Just, trust me.
Oliver and Tuesday continue to look confused before Oliver looks over at the paper again.
He finally takes a bite of the Mozuku and makes a choking sound. He doesn't like it.
BUMPER #2
YOKO
(happily)
Mozuku anyone?
INT. CITY SIDEWALK - DAY
Later that day Oliver and Tuesday are in the city. Oliver has some mixed nuts in his pocket, and he looks at the address Yoko gave him as he walks down the sidewalk. Tuesday is visibly unhappy as she rides on his shoulders.
He arrives at the psychiatric ward, a tall building oddly placed in the middle of smaller shops.
OLIVER
(a little nervous)
Okay...I guess we're here.
Oliver and Tuesday look at each other, uncertain.
TUESDAY
(sadly)
So we're going to see this crazy lady so she can get rid of me....?
Oliver looks away, annoyed, He's already explained this to Tuesday.
OLIVER
Tuesday, we've been over this. We're just making sure I'm not crazy.
TUESDAY
Pft, well that ship has sailed...
Oliver rolls his eyes and shoves Tuesday off his shoulders, she floats near him.
TUESDAY
But, Ollie-bear...
Oliver stops, turning to face her. But Tuesday seems lost for words. He walks up a bit closer to her, concerned.
Tuesday looks downcast, the rim of her hat over her eyes.
TUESDAY (CONT.)
(saddened; there's a lot of weight behind her words)
I...I don't want to leave you again....
Oliver walks up to her and puts his hands on her shoulders.
OLIVER
(comforting)
Yoko already scheduled it, so....let's just try it out and see...
(he perks her chin up)
Okay?
Oliver offers her a smile and Tuesday looks at him with wide and innocent eyes.
INT. ELEVATOR - DAY
In the elevator, Tuesday is throwing her tantrum
TUESDAY
I don't wanna go! I don't wanna go! I don't wanna gooooo!
OLIVER
Shut up!
There is a woman in the elevator with them, and she simply gives them a quizzical look.
INT. MINTY'S WAITING ROOM - DAY
Oliver and Tuesday depart from the elevator and Oliver shoves Tuesday off of him, but they walk into a rather dramatic scene.
A girl runs out of Minty's office, crying.
CRYING GIRL
You're an evil person! Stay away from me.
MINTY
How was I supposed to know he was my clients husband!? He took off his wedding ring!
The girl still runs off, running past Hobs with a gush of wind.
MINTY
Ah, whatever, you'll be back.
HOBS
(snickering)
Breaking more hearts Minty?
MINTY
Oh, put a sock in it Hobs, I don't pay you to do commentary on my clients.
Minty takes Hob's beer and drinks some of it. Hobs glares at her before Minty notices Oliver and Tuesday, looking at them blankly.
MINTY
(dryly)
Who are you?
Oliver and Tuesday stare blankly at Minty, a little shocked. Tuesday grabs onto Oliver's shirt for some kind of support.
OLIVER
Um I'm Oliver Evans...Yoko sent me here.
MINTY
Oh right, your the favor to my niece. Yeah, well...come on in.
Oliver and Tuesday look at each other once more.
TUESDAY
(sing-song)
Last chance to leeeave.
Oliver groans and stands, walking in the door, with Tuesday following in a huff.
Oliver walks by Hobs, and Hobs gives him a quizzical look.
INT. MINTY'S OFFICE - DAY
Oliver and Tuesday go inside, sitting on the couch across from Minty's desk. The large windows account for a lot of light washing into the room.
MINTY
So...my niece tells me you're a special case.
(takes a drink and slams it down)
How special? Cause I've got a disgruntled postal worker coming in after you and I don't know how many more whack-jobs I can take in one day.
Oliver blinks and bites his lip nervously. Looking at Tuesday and sighing.
MINTY
Oh come on, you're a teenager. What's the matter? Your girlfriend dumped you? Have a crush on your step-mom? Lay it on me, I've heard it all.
Oliver is nervous about admitting it to yet another person. He bunches his hands on his pants leg.
OLIVER
I...have an imaginary friend.
MINTY
(rolling her lips in laughter)
That's it!? Well, I can say you're too old for that stuff, but that's your "big problem"? Man,
(stretching)
Yoko's losing her touch for finding me clients.
Oliver is a little offended by that.
OLIVER
Look, Tuesday isn't like a normal imaginary friend she's....she's involuntary....
Minty snaps out of being absorbed in herself and her eyes grow wide. She goes through of mix of looking shocked, then worried, then uncomfortable yet determined to learn more.
Minty gets up and walks up to Oliver, staring at him intently almost to the point of studying him. It makes Oliver uneasy--his personal bubble is being invaded.
OLIVER
Um...Dr. Osaki...?
Minty scrutinizes Oliver's face and his surroundings, like she's looking for something.
Minty grabs Oliver's chin, making sure he's paying attention.
MINTY
Look, kid, this is serious. So you aren't just messing with me are you?
Oliver's a little flustered by Minty's proximity but he realizes what she said and looks over at Tuesday.
OLIVER
(worried)
Is it really that serious....?
Minty sighs and stands, her back facing Oliver before she walks towards the bookshelf.
MINTY
Do your parents know?
OLIVER
(hardened sadness)
My mother died when I was seven...
MINTY
What about your dad? How's he taking this?
OLIVER
He's working.
Minty goes over the bookshelf, picking up a books that's "classified" and about something called "Project: Renton". She starts looking through it.
MINTY
Come home late?
OLIVER
More like comes home once a week...
Oliver thinks back to Ace leaving him once again to go to work. Oliver stands alone before looking down at his debit card that Ace gave him
OLIVER (O.C)
(sighs; saddened)
Sometimes once every two weeks.
Back in the therapy office, Minty shakes her head as she looks at the classified book on the patient Dawny Evans, finding some kind of dark hilarity in Ace's choice in work.
MINTY
So he leaves his under-18-year-old child home alone for weeks at a time? No wonder you've got issues.
OLIVER
(offended and angry)
I don't care what my father does! He's probably off "taking another opportunity for us"....
(he switches to being sad again)
....or thinking of more ways to avoid me...
Minty looks up again.
MINTY
Ooooh, conflict.
(beat)
Tell me more.
Oliver doesn't seem to want to discuss further and leans back on the couch, crossing his arms. Minty just gives Oliver a quizzical look as she writes.
MINTY
Hmmm...Resists...cooperation.
OLIVER
(annoyed)
I'm not "resisting cooperation". I'm here to talk about Tuesday, not my father!
MINTY
(twirling her pen)
And I'm here to find out why you're being such a stereotypical teenage boy. Whining and biting back your feelings. That's not helping anyone, kid.
"Comedic" arrows drop down on Oliver labeled "whining" and "biting back feelings". But Oliver still crosses his arms stubbornly.
OLIVER
(pouty voice that decays his decline)
I'm not whining.
MINTY
Alright then...lets talk about your father some more...
Oliver shuts his eyes, fed up with therapy.
OLIVER
(he builds up to a yell)
I told you I don't want to talk about my father. He has nothing to do with any of this! So if that's all you wanna talk about then I'm leaving...
Oliver goes to the door, Tuesday reaches out a hand for him.
TUESDAY
(chastising)
Oliver!
Minty looks worried that he's leaving so soon.
MINTY
(a bit desperate)
Hey kid, get back here! The session's not finished yet!
OLIVER
(defiant)
If you can't do you job than there's reason in me staying.
(to Tuesday)
Come on Tuesday, let's-
Minty's hand slams the door closed, an startles Oliver. He turns and finds Minty with a rather creepy look on her face grinning devilishly.
MINTY
(becoming unstable)
You don't think I can do my job?
OLIVER
(nervous stutter)
I-I-
MINTY
You think I'm the craaaazy old lady huh? Listen here, kid, you've got a special case here...and the only way you're gonna get out of it, is with my help, or else this world is gonna chew you up and spit you out.
Oliver looks thoroughly creeped out but he decides to stand his ground, challenging Minty.
OLIVER
You're not the only therapist around here.
MINTY
Oh so that's your attitude, huh?Well I've got a few things for you you little piece of-
INT. MINTY'S WAITING ROOM - DAY
In the waiting room, Hobs is, once again, looking at something on his computer. There's a lot of muffled yelling and loud crashes of thing being thrown around and he looks at the door, hearing the noise.
It happens all the time but he still takes off his glasses and rubs his temples.
HOBS
(trying to convince himself)
I love my job, I love my job, I love my job...
INT. MINTY'S OFFICE - DAY
Minty's going crazy, throwing things books around the room. Her desk is flipped over and Oliver and Tuesday are cowering in the corner, but Tuesday looks more disinterested than scared.
TUESDAY
(smugly)
I told you we shouldn't have come.
OLIVER
Shut up, Tuesday!!
MINTY
And where are my freaking nuts!!!!???
Oliver perks up at Minty's words.
He reaches in his pocket and pulls out the mixed nuts Yoko made him buy.
OLIVER
(timid)
Um...Dr. Osaki...?
She doesn't hear him but throws a cup over in their direction. Oliver dodges it just barely, shielding Tuesday out of habit even though she wasn't in danger of being "hit".
He's had enough.
OLIVER
Dr. Osaki!!!!
MINTY
What!?
Oliver holds up the bag.
OLIVER
(still a little timid)
Do...you want these?
Minty stomps over to Oliver and snatches them from him, ripping the bag open and pouring the whole bag in her mouth; crunching loudly.
Almost instantly her shoulders sag, and she looks exhausted. Dragging herself over to her desk and turning her chair upright she sits in it, sighing.
MINTY
(tired, but professional)
So...You seem to be suffering from chronic hallucinations...
OLIVER
What the heck is wrong with you!?
MINTY
Oh that? That happens sometimes when I get angry. Nuts are the only thing that seem to calm me down.
(shrugs)
No big deal.
OLIVER
No big deal!? You could've killed me!!
MINTY
Oh, stop being so over-dramatic. The worst someone's gotten is a sprained wrist.
OLIVER
(100% done)
I'm outta here.
Oliver heads for the door again, taking Tuesday with him by the hand.
TUESDAY
Thank you!
MINTY
(laughs a little bitterly)
I'll bet you thought that you could just come here and I'd give you some quick word of advice or a pill and that would fix everything; but I can't do one thing to help you unless you really want to help yourself.
Oliver turns around, the last part catches his attention against his will...and Tuesday looks worried once again.
MINTY
Oliver, tell me something...why do you think you're in this situation?
Oliver blinks, mulling over the words carefully and Tuesday looks at him in wonder.
OLIVER
I...um...
MINTY
You think it's cause you're lonely, don't you?
Oliver looks down.
MINTY
It's understandable. Your mother's gone, your father is never around, and you and my niece only became friends just recently, right?
OLIVER
Yeah....
MINTY
Listen, Oliver...you being lonely...it might be the trigger, but it's not the only reason you're here right now. You have my niece...so you not having any friends can't be the reason anymore. And yet you still need to have this...controlled imaginary relationship. Why do you think that is...?
Oliver doesn't answer, he just can't find the words yet. But it's clear the words got to him. Minty wasn't really expecting an answer right away, anyways.
MINTY
(looking at her watch)
So, it's 5 o'clock. Time for my disgruntled postal worker.
INT. MINTY'S WAITING ROOM - DAY
Outside the "disgruntled postal worker" is sitting on the waiting couch, arms crossed and looking annoyed. He looks down at his mail carrier and spazzes out.
DISGRUNTLED POSTAL WORKER
Mail!
He immediately snaps back to his original expression.
INT. MINTY'S OFFICE - DAY
MINTY(CONT.)
Which means you-
(she points to Oliver)
-out of here. Now. Get back to me with an answer to that next session.
OLIVER
Next session....?
MINTY
Don't worry...you'll be back. They always come back...
Oliver turns to walk out.
MINTY
Oh, but one more thing.
OLIVER
What?
MINTY
(holds out her hand)
300 dollars.
Oliver looks shocked as another "comedic" arrow labeled "$300" drops down on him.
MINTY
Therapy ain't covered by health care, kid. Next time think before you catch the crazy.
Oliver sighs and takes out his wallet and pulls out the same card Ace gave him years ago.
BUMPER #3
INT. MINTY'S WAITING ROOM
Oliver walks out in a huff, and Minty closes the door behind her.
Hobs simply sits there looking like he wants to chime in and Minty rolls her eyes.
MINTY
Go ahead, say something.
HOBS
That was a pretty noisy session for walk-in client. But for a walk-in he sure is...
They both look at Oliver talking to someone who's clearly not there.
HOBS
weird.
MINTY
More than weird, he's familiar.
In the elevator Tuesday looks displeased and Oliver is upset because of this. The elevator closed.
MINTY(CONT.)
He has an imaginary friend that he can't get rid of....
HOBS
(genuinely concerned)
Think you can handle another one?
Minty turns, walking back into her office.
INT. MINTY'S OFFICE - DAY
In her office, she goes to the big window, leaning against it and looking at the classified book again.
MINTY
I guess I'm about to find out....
BUMPER #4
EXT. OUTSIDE THE PSYCHOLOGY BUILDING
Oliver and Tuesday come outside and Yoko is in front, surprised to see her.
OLIVER
Yoko? Where you standing outside the whole time?
Yoko stutters a bit nervously, trying to cover that she has been out there for a while.
YOKO
No, I just got here ten minutes ago.
Oliver's not buying it, but he lets it go.
YOKO
So, How did things go with Aunt Minty?
OLIVER
How do you think it went!? She went crazy and was throwing things and-!
Yoko cuts him off.
YOKO
So I take it you used the nuts?
OLIVER
Yeah...
(he pauses, calming down)
I mean, thanks for the tip and all. But why didn't you warn me your aunt was a psycho woman?
YOKO
Aunt Minty's very....odd. But she's very good at her job.
(she thinks for a bit)
Most of the time.
Oliver looks down, somewhat agreeing.
OLIVER
Yeah...I guess.
YOKO
Will you be going back to see her....?
Tuesday shakes her head no, but Oliver sighs, looking up at the building before nodding. Though he's surprised by his own decision.
OLIVER
Yeah...
Tuesday groans.
Yoko smiles before whispering to Oliver.
YOKO
How's Tuesday taking it?
TUESDAY
(annoyed)
I can still hear her!
Oliver shrugs, he's used to Tuesday's attitude even though it annoys him.
OLIVER
Just as I thought. She's being a baby about it.
Tuesday sticks out her tongue at Oliver.
Yoko turns in the opposite direction in which Tuesday is.
YOKO
Well, Tuesday...
Oliver is always amused when Yoko tries to "talk" to Tuesday--and usually faces the wrong way.
OLIVER
(amused)
Tuesday's over here, Yoko
Oliver moves Yoko over to face Tuesday.
YOKO
Oh, thank you. Tuesday...we both just have to keep Oliver's well-being in mind.
(friendly teasing)
Cause he can be such a baby sometimes.
She pinches his cheeks, smiling devilishly.
OLIVER
(blushing in embarrassment)
Hey, Yoko, quit it.
There's a pause as the streetlights turn on. Yoko thinks for a minute, then asks Oliver a question.
YOKO
So, my curfew isn't for another few hours...Do you maybe wanna catch a movie or something.
Oliver is immediately into it.
OLIVER
Yeah that sounds-!
But then he remembers Tuesday. Oliver figures he's put her through enough stuff she didn't want to go through that day. He never finishes his sentence but Yoko can tell that Oliver's thinking about Tuesday. She sighs but understands.
YOKO
Or...we can do it tomorrow?
OLIVER
Yeah...tomorrow would be better.
YOKO
(she smiles regardless)
Okay
OLIVER
(he returns the smile, blushing)
Okay
Yoko tries to get something out of it and gives Oliver a sudden hug.
YOKO
Have a good night, Oliver
Oliver gives out a lovestruck sound and returns the hug.
In the background Tuesday watches, not sure if she's angry or sad.
INT. SUBWAY - NIGHT
Oliver and Tuesday ride the subway back home in silence. Oliver looks around and no one's looking at him funny.
He turns to see the Hughbe from before.
HUGHBE
Where's your invisible friend?
Oliver looks a Tuesday who's still ignoring him.
OLIVER
(a mix of annoyed and sad)
Mad at me.
HUGHBE
Oh...
Awkward silence.
HUGHBE
Well, I hope things work out.
Oliver gives a dumbfounded look toward's Hughbe's cooperation, but then shakes it off, slumping back.
OLIVER
Yeah...me too.
Oliver and Tuesday get off the subway, it's now early evening and Oliver goes the rest of the way home on his motor scooter.
They ride in silence, the tension of Tuesday being upset is thick.
Oliver's scooter is parked in front of his apartment.
INT. OLIVER'S APARTMENT - NIGHT
In Oliver's apartment he's making a microwave dinner in the kitchen. As he waits in front of he microwave he looks over sadly at Tuesday who's sitting on the couch, she's still not talking to him.
OLIVER
(challenging)
You have to talk to me eventually.
Tuesday says nothing.
OLIVER
What's the point of having you around if I can't talk to you?
TUESDAY
(being difficult)
I thought you didn't "want" me around anymore?
OLIVER
You're being a drama queen again.
"Comedic" arrow drops down on Tuesday, still labeled "drama queen".
The microwave beeps--ready. Oliver takes the food out.
OLIVER
(trying to be mature)
Look, Tuesday. It's just having you around so much isn't normal. I have to look further into this.
TUESDAY
And going back to that crazy lady is going to help?
OLIVER
Well...yeah.
Oliver sits down with a plate of food and a drink, placing it on the pull out table in front of him, but turning to Tuesday.
He tentatively grabs her hand, trying to silently break the tension. But Tuesday still looks down.
OLIVER
(sad)
Please...don't be so mad at me. You know I hate it when it's awkward like this.
TUESDAY
I was never mad at you...I was just...worried.
Oliver gives her a quizzical look.
TUESDAY
Everything's so different now. You have Yoko...and now you're going to therapy...I just don't want you to not need me again...
Oliver looks down, he wants to give her a straight answer but it's complicated.
OLIVER
It's just not that simple anymore, Tuesday.
TUESDAY
(stubborn)
Well I wish it was!
(sighs)
Things were so much easier, when you were a kid.
There's a moment of silence and Oliver squeezes Tuesday's hand.
OLIVER
We'll be okay.
Oliver looks over at her and perks her chin up, smiling reassuringly.
OLIVER
We always have been, right?
Tuesday finally returns the smile.
TUESDAY
Right!
Tuesday leans against Oliver's shoulder; eyes closed and smiling contently. Oliver looks at her fondly.
TUESDAY
Hey, Oliver.
OLIVER
Hmmm?
TUESDAY
(hopeful)
Do you wanna play make believe?
OLIVER
Come on Tuesday you know I'm too old for that stuff, it would be too...too-
Oliver tries to let Tuesday down easily but she makes a cute pouting face and Oliver can't help but let her have what she wants.
OLIVER
(sighs)
Alright.
Tuesday giddily hugs him.
OLIVER
But just for a little while, okay?
TUESDAY
Okay....You remember how to do it?
OLIVER
Mmm hmmm
TUESDAY
Okay, then close your eyes....
Oliver does so, holding her a little tighter until he hears strange music in the background.
TUESDAY
Okay...now open.
Oliver opens his eyes and sees a surreal make-believe world much like the one in the opening scene.
There's a carnival that's on the water, a butterfly windmill in the distance. Oliver is in somewhat formal outfit.
TUESDAY
Oliver!
Oliver looks up to see Tuesday on a floating ledge above him.
TUESDAY
Up here! Follow me slow poke!
She runs forward, and Oliver quickly follows.
OLIVER (V.O)
Life with Tuesday is always going to have it's own unique set of problems.
(beat)
I wanna make Tuesday happy but...
Oliver runs after Tuesday looking at the butterfly windmill coming into the foreground, the carnival behind him disintegrating into rose petals.
Tuesday suddenly jumps off the ledge, floating over into the nearby water and lands on it like the water was solid ground.
TUESDAY
Come on, Oliver, this way!
Oliver watches Tuesday, confused.
OLIVER (V.O)
But at the same time. I know that the longer I keep Tuesday around...
Oliver's on the water now as the windmill keeps spinning. Tuesday smiles at him, but Oliver is still confused and a little worried that all of this weirdness is coming from his own mind.
OLIVER (V.O)
...The crazier I'll become.
