COOKING
Oliver hears a knock on the door, and goes to get it. To his surprise, it's Yoko
OLIVER
Uh...Yoko, hey...!
YOKO
I brought over some food, since you said you were low on cash.
OLIVER
Yeah...I got a little crazy with the allowance this month...
He laughs sheepishly and looks over at his new game console, apparently what his food money went to.
Yoko makes her way into the kitchen, unbagging the food and putting an apron on.
YOKO
Well, don't worry, I'm here to save the day.
OLIVER
(a little too excited)
You're gonna cook me dinner!?
(clearing his throat and trying to sound calm)
Well, you know...if you want to...that's cool.
YOKO
Is pork stir fry okay?
OLIVER
Yeah, It's fine!
YOKO
Alright then.
(she turns around a little dramatically in her "cooking outfit)
Now go sit on the couch and let me handle things.
OLIVER
You don't want me to help?
Yoko slaps his hand with the spoon.
OLIVER
Ow
YOKO
Nope, you'll affect my performance. Now just go play your games.
OLIVER
Fine...geez...
Oliver starts to walk away but bus stays near the entrance to the kitchen, sinking down to the floor and watching Yoko sneakily.
OLIVER
(whispering to himself)
I can't believe she's in my kitchen cooking....and she's in an apron and everything....!
(he drools a little before perking up, thinking for a moment)
But maybe that's sexist...? Nah, I mean, she did suggest cooking herself...and I offered to help...but still....she said I'd affect her performance.
(he laughs before smiling devilishly)
I wonder what other performances of her's I'd affect.
YOKO
If you're going to stare at me like a perv the whole time you can at least get off the floor.
Oliver hops up.
OLIVER
Wha...uh...sorry...
Yoko just laughs.
YOKO
Well...as long as you're in here...hand me the salt.
COMFORTING
(Taking place during the time where Tuesday has temporarily disappeared)
Oliver and Yoko are sitting in Oliver's living room, Yoko's leaning against him but Oliver seems in some kind of trance as he stares at the TV.
YOKO
(concerned)
Oliver...you okay?
Oliver doesn't answer, he barely makes any indication that he even heard her.
After a few silent moments he finally looks at her, his eyes sad.
YOKO
Do you want some tea...or hot chocolate.
Oliver nods.
YOKO
Okay.
(she starts getting up)
I'll go make you some.
OLIVER
N-no....I got it...
Oliver gets up slowly and drags himself into the kitchen. Yoko watches attentively, not trusting him in the kitchen alone and goes after him.
Oliver's simply staring at the pot of hot water, looking like he's about to cry.
Yoko sighs, and places a hand on his shoulder.
YOKO
Oliver...
OLIVER
Why am I such a mess without her....?
YOKO
(a bit saddened)
Because she's your best friend....right?
Oliver nods slowly, turning to face Yoko with unfocused eyes before he simply hangs his head in a defeated manner. He sniffles, his eyes getting watery.
Yoko immediately pulls him into a hug.
YOKO
(softly)
Oliver...it's okay...
OLIVER
(his voice is broken)
I'm sorry....I'm such a mess right now...
YOKO
It's alright...I don't mind.
OLIVER
(he hugs her tightly)
Don't...leave me...please....
YOKO
I won't....
Oliver's knees get weak and he sinks down to the floor, taking Yoko with him. The two simply stay there in am embrace while the hot water continues to boil.
Cut to a few hours later. The water in the pot has completely evaporated, and the moon is up outside. But, Oliver and Yoko are still in the same spot.
Yoko's fallen into a light sleep but wakes up, looking at the clock to see that it's almost 11pm. She perks up.
Oliver feels her move and opens his eyes as well, groaning. They both meet gazes and Oliver stares at her pitifully.
YOKO
I...have to go...
Oliver's eyes widen, he looks scared.
OLIVER
But...you said...
YOKO
I'm sorry...but, my curfew, I've already passed it.
Oliver buries himself further in her embrace, not letting her go.
OLIVER
Then just stay here with me.
YOKO
(a bit stunned by his
forthright comment)
I...you know I want to just...I can't. My father would kill me.
OLIVER
Please Yoko...please. I don't wanna be here all by myself.
Yoko is about to protest but doesn't. Oliver just seems so broken, she doesn't have the heart to leave him there alone.
YOKO
Alright...I'll stay....
She can feel Oliver's smile against her.
CONFRONTING
(As Oliver tries to break up with Yoko)
YOKO
B-but why? We were doing just fine. Why are you breaking things off all of a sudden?
OLIVER
Just...something came up. It's not your fault Yoko, you're great...I just....
YOKO
Don't say it....
Oliver blinks, confused.
YOKO
Don't say it's not me "it's you"...just don't. We both know it's not either of us...it's her isn't it? It's Tuesday!
OLIVER
What are you saying?
YOKO
You love her don't you....?
Oliver looks away, blushing and not knowing how to answer that. He doesn't know himself.
His silence only angers Yoko further.
YOKO
Don't you!?
OLIVER
(angered)
I don't....!
(he takes a breath, calming)
I don't know...
Yoko's eyes widen, she's hurt and shocked.
OLIVER
But it's not fair to you...to both of us, to do this when I don't know...
YOKO
Why....?
Oliver looks at her.
YOKO
(angered and emotionally broken)
Why is this even a problem, Oliver, she's not real!
Oliver looks as if he's been punched in the stomach. He knows she's right....but he still feels a backed into a corner. It angers him.
OLIVER
(yelling)
You knew what I was like when you agreed to be friends with me, Yoko! You know I'm crazy!
YOKO
Save it....you lead me on!
OLIVER
I-I...I....
YOKO
(darkly and on the verge of crying)
You ass-hole.
Oliver's eyes widen. She went there....He stands there in shock and simply watches her walk away. He wants to go after her but instead he continues to stand there....

EXT. BACKYARD TO THE OLIVER'S OLD HOME - NOON
A younger Oliver runs outside, finding his mother under the big oak tree in their backyard, simply sitting in the shade.
YOUNG OLIVER
Mom! Dad said it's time for you to go to therapy!
Dawny simply sits there, not moving. She then turns her head to face him, smiling a little unsettlingly before turning back into the shade.
Oliver just looks dumbfounded, staring at her.
OLIVER (V.O)
My mom always had a strong opinion about going to therapy...and no matter how hard my dad tried to get her to go, she wouldn't.
Ace is standing in the doorway of the backyard door, leaning against the frame. Oliver turns towards him and shrugs; Ace frowns.
OLIVER (V.O)
I...never had to much of an opinion on therapy....
EXT. CITY SIDEWALK (OUTSIDE PSYCHIATRIC WARD) - DAY
Cut to Oliver and Tuesday outside of the psychiatric ward, Oliver's looking at the directions Yoko has written down for him. He sighs.
OLIVER (V.O CONT.)
Until I needed it myself....
Cut to opening theme.
INT. YOKO'S ROOM - DAY
Oliver and Yoko and are painting her walls. Yoko is simply painting straight lines of color while Oliver is painting abstract swirls and circles.
Yoko sighs fondly and shakes her head, stopping his hand.
YOKO
Oliver we're painting my room...not a city mural.
OLIVER
Well that's what you get for asking me to help. Why didn't you just ask a professional...? It's not like you don't have the money.
Zoom out on Yoko's room just to show how big it actually is.
YOKO
(nervously twirling her hair)
Well...you know...just...
Oliver smiles devilishly.
OLIVER
(playing teasting)
Oh, you just wanted me all alone in your room, didn't you?
Yoko blushes but looks angry. She speaks, but her words are dampened by her red face.
YOKO
(sucking her teeth)
Get over yourself.
Oliver smirks and puts a spot of paint on her nose. Yoko gasps playfully and puts a whole stroke of paint on his cheek.
OLIVER
Oh, so that's how you play, huh?
He reaches for Yoko, hugging her from behind and painting her cheek before Tuesday lets out a dramatic sigh to attract Oliver's attention, and he sees her sitting in the corner, knees pulling up to her chest. She's not as bratty as usual, but just looks sad and kind of angry.
Oliver frowns and walks over the corner, kneeling down to Tuesday.
OLIVER
(to Yoko)
one second...
(to Tuesday)
Hey...what's the matter?
TUESDAY
Oh, so you finally noticed me?
Oliver groans, his face unsympathetic.
OLIVER
Come on, Tuesday, not this again...
TUESDAY
Well...why is every weekend now taken up by you hanging out with..with her? When are we going to do things together again?
OLIVER
(sarcastically)
Hmmm...you know I recall giving you my entire childhood and all of my summer.
Tuesday just pouts.
TUESDAY
Not what I meant...
OLIVER
(sighing)
Tuesday just be happy that I made a friend that doesn't think I'm weird...and is okay with you.
TUESDAY
Which I still can't believe you told her...you know what might happen....
(she looks down, saddened)
Like what happened to mom.
Oliver pauses as well, his face get serious and he puts a hand on Tuesday's shoulder.
OLIVER
That won't happen to me, okay?...I promise.
YOKO
Something wrong with Tuesday?
(she looks around in every direction)
I mean, if that is Tuesday you're talking to....you don't have any more imaginary people I should meet?
Tuesday glares at Yoko.
OLIVER
(laughing to himself, patting Tuesday's head)
No, just one very stubborn little girl.
YOKO
(she kneels next to him)
If you don't mind me asking, if Tuesday annoys you, can't you just...I don't know, shut her off.
Tuesday lets out an offended gasp.
OLIVER
It doesn't entirely work that way...she's pretty much out of my control.
YOKO
(placing a hand on her chin thoughtfully)
Hmmm...what an odd condition.
Oliver's brows knit together; he's a little offended even though he knows Yoko meant no harm. Yoko immediately notices and corrects herself.
YOKO
Oh, well...I mean...not condition-condition but just...erm...
OLIVER
(putting up a hand; shushing her)
Forget it...
There's a brief moment of silence.
YOKO
Ever thought of therapy...?
Oliver's eyes widen and he sees a small flashback of his mother's unsettling smile when she was asked to go to therapy. He blinks, and the flashback in gone.
TUESDAY
You see...it's starting already...
OLIVER
(ignoring Tuesday)
Maybe once or twice...
YOKO
Well...you know, my aunt's a psychologist.
Oliver's eyes widen again.
OLIVER
What!? Yoko, why didn't you tell me...?
YOKO
(softly)
I didn't want to offend you...
Oliver smiles and tentatively puts his hand over hers.
OLIVER
Thanks Yoko, I'll keep that in mind.
(he stands)
Now, lets get back to painting before the sun goes down and we lose the natural light.
YOKO
Such the artist...
Oliver stops mid-step and turns to Tuesday, holding out his hand. Tuesday tries to hide her smile as she takes it and he props her up on his shoulders and continues painting.
OLIVER (V.O)
The more I started thinking about therapy after that day....the more it scared me...

Pilot Script (11/29 EDIT)

INT. DAWNY'S ROOM - DAY
Cut to Dawny's room, Oliver's sitting her in lap while she brushes his hair. They both look content.
OLIVER (V.O)
My mother always told me that I was never truly alone....
Oliver turns his head up to look at Dawny, and she smiles at him.
EXT. PLAYGROUND - DAY
There are little children playing happily on the playground during recess, but one of them--a 5-year-old Oliver--is simply sitting under the trees alone.
OLIVER (V.O - CONT.)
that as long as I had my imagination I wouldn't be lonely. But I didn't really believe that until Tuesday came...
Soon, Tuesday leans in front of him, looking at him with a questionable look.
TUESDAY
Hey...what's your problem? Why are you crying?
Oliver's teary eyes widen and Tuesday crosses her arms, giving him an unsympathetic look.
OLIVER (V.O)
Tuesday was my imaginary friend...in a lot of ways, my only friend when I was little. She was the best thing about my childhood....Even if no one else could see her...
Oliver tries to show Tuesday to some of the kids in his class, but no one can see her. They all walk away from him, whispering. But Tuesday smiles at him and they play with blocks in the corner together.
OLIVER (V.O - CONT.)
...Tuesday and I...we had our own little Neverland...our escape from harsh reality.
EXT. GRAVEYARD - DAY (OVERCAST)
As the narration goes on it shows Oliver putting a flower on his Dawny's grave, Tuesday's there next to him, as is Ace.
OLIVER (V.O)
...But even though Tuesday went away just like every imaginary friend does when you get too old. She's well....Tuesday's different....
INT. OLIVER'S APARTMENT - MORNING
Show 14-year-old Oliver, he's now in an apartment, it's empty and the sun coming in his bedroom window making everything look bright, yet grey-ish.
He wakes up with a groan, noticing that he's drooling and whips it off with an annoyed expression. Cut to the kitchen and goes into the fridge to get milk and then sits down at the table to eat breakfast.
He's finally snapped from his melancholy routine when he sees Tuesday across the table smiling at him. She gets right up in his face.
TUESDAY
(giddy)
Hi Ollie-Bear!
Oliver wears an utterly shocked expression, food falling from his mouth.
OLIVER (V.O - CONT.)
I had gone through all of middle school without Tuesday...but then when I was about to start high school. Tuesday came back...
INT. SUBWAY - DAY
In the current timeline, Oliver and Tuesday on a subway, riding, for the moment, quietly.
OLIVER (V.O)
...And she won't leave.
CUE OPENING CREDITS.
Still on the subway, Tuesday is floating in a belly down kind of way, poking Oliver's arm lazily. Oliver is clearly annoyed, but tries to bite it back until he simply can't.
OLIVER
Knock it off! You know I hate it when you do that!
Tuesday shrinks back a bit, annoyed as well, but Oliver's outburst catches the attention of the Hughbe sitting next to him. Hughbe offers him a strange look.
Oliver sighs and looks to the old woman sitting next to Tuesday, she scoots away slowly, clutching her purse close to her, looking nervous.
Oliver simply looks down, fed up with the same old reactions from people.
TUESDAY
You don't have to yell, you know.
OLIVER
Well you don't have to constantly poke at me, you know.
(he sighs a bit, calming down.)
It's just, I keep telling you how crazy it makes me look in public.
TUESDAY
But I'm so bored. You know I hate the subway.
OLIVER
At least you don't have to smell it.
Oliver covers his nose, looking at the Hughbe sitting next to them, clearly stinking of fish and seawater. He glares at Oliver.
HUGHBE
At least I don't talk to myself.
The words hit Oliver kind of hard, and Oliver looks away, defeated.
Tuesday gives a little giggle, finding the moment funny.
OLIVER (V.O)
Having an imaginary friend at 14 is weird enough...but it's even weirder that Tuesday just...won't leave. Which, clearly can cause some problems.
INT. BATHROOM - DAY
Next, Oliver is in the bathroom peeing, as Tuesday floats awkwardly next to him. Oliver refuses to make eye contact.
OLIVER
Don't look!
INT. DETENTION CLASSROOM - DAY
In detention, Tuesday and Oliver are talking quietly. Oliver is using his phone under his desk.
TUESDAY
I just don't get it.
OLIVER
(whispering)
It's called Tumblr, Tuesday.
TUESDAY
That's what I don't get...why do you need to tumble on the internet?
Oliver laughs a bit, showing her his phone.
OLIVER
(lightly)
See...?
He notices a shadow over him. His teacher--Harley--looks down at him, frowning.
Cut to Oliver looking at a detention slip for "disturbing class during an important test". He glares at Tuesday who grins sheepishly.
INT. BATHROOM - DAY
Back in the bathroom, Oliver is still peeing as Tuesday floats next to him.
TUESDAY
(annoyed)
Are you almost finished!?
OLIVER
I told you not to look!
INT. SCHOOL CAFETERIA - DAY
Oliver is having lunch and Tuesday is floating next to him on her back lazily. Oliver looks at a flyer that's advertising an art exhibit.
OLIVER
It's on the 5th, but I'm not sure I'm going to do it.
TUESDAY
(examining her nails)
Why? It's not like you don't have enough artwork lying around in your room.
OLIVER
Eh...I'm still not sure.
But everyone else is staying as far away from them as possible. Whispering how he's a freak.
OLIVER (V.O)
But, at least I was able to make one friend...
Yoko walks up to them boldly, though, sitting next to Oliver and smiling. Oliver returns the grin.
YOKO
Hello Oliver.
OLIVER
Hey, Yoko.
Yoko scoots a little closer to Oliver, whispering.
YOKO
So, how are things with Tuesday?
OLIVER
(leaning back in his chair)
It's fine...if you don't count the stares and constant whispering that I can-
(yelling in a general direction of a group of girls laughing at him)
-still hear even though they think I can't!
Yoko takes a bite of her food before throwing a particularly creepy glare at them, static in the background. The whispering girls all shut up, chewing and cutting glares at her occasionally.
Oliver and Tuesday just stare in a moment of awe before shrugging it off, Yoko's done it before.
YOKO
Don't pay attention to them.
Yoko smiles a bit sheepishly, tucking her hair behind her ear as she darts her eyes away, blushingly.
YOKO (CONT.)
You're just a special...kind of guy....
Oliver throws her a confused look, not knowing whether he should feel flattered or be insulted.
Yoko immediately picks up on his confusion and corrects herself.
YOKO
(stuttering)
I-I mean, you have a very complex mind.
OLIVER
(letting it go; sighing)
I guess. I just wish I knew why Tuesday came back all of a sudden...
TUESDAY
(offended)
You make it sound like it's a bad thing.
OLIVER
You know what I mean, Tuesday.
YOKO
Well, you know, my aunt's a psychologist.
OLIVER
What? Really?
Yoko nods.
YOKO
Mmm hmm.
Oliver smiles, a bit excited, but then frowns.
YOKO
What's wrong?
OLIVER
It's just...I can't believe I'm so messed up I'm considering seeing a shrink.
YOKO
(aggressively "reassuring")
There's nothing wrong with therapy...it wouldn't be needed if people weren't such judgmental, stuck up, pricks....!
Yoko begins to rant, a few demons from her past boiling up, and she breaks her plastic fork as she crushes it in her palm. Oliver and Tuesday exchange confused looks with a simultaneous "uhhhh" before Yoko gets up and gets another fork and sits down, apparently having calmed herself down.
YOKO
(exhaling and switching to a mature tone)
So yeah...there's nothing wrong with therapy...
Oliver looks like he's about to say something about Yoko's outburst but doesn't.
OLIVER
I guess....
Yoko takes out a pen and paper, writing down the address and name of her aunt before handing it to Oliver.
YOKO
Here's her address. If you're really serious, you should have a session with her. I'll call it in for you.
Oliver and Tuesday look at the address before He turns to Yoko and smiles a bit, placing a hand on her shoulder.
OLIVER
(softly)
Thanks Yoko
She smiles as well, looking away a bit sheepishly; trying to keep her cool.
YOKO
No problem.
Tuesday dips her head in-between Oliver and Yoko and Oliver yelps, rearing back and taking his hand off Yoko. Yoko only reacts when Oliver does, as she doesn't see Tuesday.
Tuesday sits on Oliver's shoulder's, resting her elbows atop his head, feeling possessive. Oliver's displeased, but is used to it.
YOKO
Oh, and it's probably good to pick up some mixed nuts on the way there.
Oliver and Tuesday look at each other in a confused manner.
OLIVER
What for?
YOKO
Just, trust me.
Oliver and Tuesday continue to look confused before Oliver looks over at the paper again.
Cut to end of Act 1 Bumper.
INT. CITY SIDEWALK - DAY
Back in the current timeline Oliver and Tuesday are getting off the subway. Oliver has some mixed nuts in his hand, and he looks at the paper as he walks down the sidewalk. Tuesday is visibly unhappy as she rides on his shoulders.
He arrives at the psychiatric ward, a tall building oddly placed in the middle of smaller shops.
OLIVER
Okay...I guess this is it.
Oliver and Tuesday look at each other, uncertain.
TUESDAY
So we're going to see this crazy lady so she can get rid of me....?
OLIVER
No, we're going so we can see if I'm crazy or not.
TUESDAY
Pft, well that ship has sailed...
Oliver rolls his eyes and shoves Tuesday off his shoulders, she floats near him.
TUESDAY
But, Ollie-bear...
Oliver stops, turning to face her. But Tuesday seems lost for words. He walks up a bit closer to her, concerned.
Tuesday looks downcast, the rim of her hat over her eyes.
TUESDAY (CONT.)
(saddened; there's a lot of weight behind her words)
I...I don't want to leave you again....
Oliver walks up to her and puts his hands on her shoulders.
OLIVER
(comforting)
Yoko already scheduled it, so....let's just try it out and see...
(he perks her chin up)
Okay?
Oliver offers her a smile and Tuesday looks at him with wide and innocent eyes, looking like she's about to agree before the scene cuts to Oliver dragging her through the lobby by her leg.
TUESDAY
I don't wanna go! I don't wanna go! I don't wanna go!
INT. ELEVATOR - DAY
In the elevator, Tuesday is still throwing her tantrum
TUESDAY
I don't wanna go! I don't wanna gooooo!
OLIVER
Shut up!
There is a woman in the elevator with them, and she simply gives them a quizzical look.
INT. MINTY'S WAITING ROOM - DAY
Oliver and Tuesday depart from the elevator and Oliver shoves Tuesday off of him, but they walk into a rather dramatic scene.
A girl runs out of Minty's office, crying.
CRYING GIRL
You're an evil person! Stay away from me.
MINTY
How was I supposed to know he was my clients husband!? He took off his wedding ring!
The girl still runs off, running past Hobs with a gush of wind.
MINTY
Ah, whatever, you'll be back.
HOBS
(snickering)
Breaking more hearts Minty?
MINTY
Oh, put a sock in it Hobs, I don't pay you to do commentary on my clients.
Minty takes Hob's beer and drinks some of it. Hobs glares at her before Minty notices Oliver and Tuesday, looking at them blankly.
MINTY
(dryly)
Who are you?
OLIVER
Um I'm Oliver Evans...your 4:30 client.
MINTY
Oh right, your the favor to my niece. Yeah, well...come on in.
Oliver and Tuesday look at each other once more.
TUESDAY
(sing-song)
Last chance to leeeave.
Oliver groans and stands, walking in the door, with Tuesday following in a huff.
Oliver walks by Hobs, and Hobs gives him a quizzical look.
INT. MINTY'S OFFICE - DAY
Oliver and Tuesday go inside, sitting on the couch across from Minty's desk. The large windows account for a lot of light washing into the room.
MINTY
So...my niece tells me you're a special case.
(takes a drink and slams it down)
How special? Cause I've got a disgruntled postal worker coming in after you and I don't know how many more whack-jobs I can take in one day.
Oliver blinks and bites his lip nervously. Looking at Tuesday and sighing.
MINTY
Oh come on, you're a teenager. What's the matter? Your girlfriend dumped you? Have a crush on your step-mom? Lay it on me, I've heard it all.
OLIVER
I...have an imaginary friend.
MINTY
(rolling her lips in laughter)
That's it!? Well, I can say you're too old for that stuff, but that's your "big problem"? Man,
(stretching)
Yoko's losing her touch for finding me clients.
Oliver sighs.
OLIVER
Look, Tuesday isn't like a normal imaginary friend she's....she's involuntary....
Minty snaps out of being absorbed in herself and her eyes grow wide. She goes through of mix of looking shocked, then worried, then uncomfortable yet determined to learn more.
Minty gets up and walks up to Oliver, staring at him intently almost to the point of studying him. It makes Oliver uneasy--his personal bubble is being invaded.
OLIVER
Um...Dr. Osaki...?
Minty scrutinizes Oliver's face and his surroundings, like she's looking for something before rearing back.
MINTY
So this imaginary friend of yours is named Tuesday?
Minty takes a seat next to Oliver on the couch, sitting right on top of Tuesday.
Tuesday squeals, trying to push Minty away but can't.
TUESDAY
Make her stop, Oliver, geez!
Oliver bits his lip, worried and tries to reach for Tuesday but doesn't want to put his hands "there".
OLIVER
(to Minty)
Um, actually, you're sitting on Tuesday right now. Can you get off her?
Minty squeals as well, jumping up. Her nerves are getting bad and she throws a glower at Oliver.
MINTY
(verging frantic)
Look, kid, this is serious. So you aren't just messing with me are you?
OLIVER
No.
Minty's words get more panicked as she speaks.
MINTY
Making cracks at the lady in the suit. Isn't that what you kids say "making cracks."?
OLIVER
Will you just move on you crazy-
Minty attempts to calm herself down as Oliver speaks, taking a deep breath before cutting him off.
MINTY
But, moving on.
Minty points back to the couch and Oliver grabs Tuesday and sits her in his lap. Minty regains her seat.
MINTY
Do your parents know?
OLIVER
(hardened sadness)
My mother died when I was seven....
Minty looks like she's growing nervous again at his answer. She looks at him, sympathetically.
MINTY
What about your dad? How's he taking this?
Oliver thinks back to Ace leaving the first time for his faraway job when Oliver was twelve.
OLIVER(O.C)
He's working.
MINTY (O.C)
Come home late?
Ace pats Oliver on the head before giving him a debit card and walks out the door.
OLIVER(O.C)
More like comes home once a week...
Oliver sits at the table eating alone, looking outside the window; no one's coming...
OLIVER (O.C)
(sighs)
Sometimes once every two weeks.
Back in the therapy office, Oliver looks downcast and Minty shakes her head, finding some kind of dark hilarity in Ace's choice in work. She laughs a bit to herself.
MINTY
So he leaves his under-18-year-old child home alone for weeks at a time? No wonder you've got issues.
OLIVER
(offended and angry)
I don't care what my father does! He's probably off sleeping with more women...or thinking of more ways to avoid me...
Minty looks up again.
MINTY
Ooooh, conflict.
(beat)
Tell me more.
Oliver doesn't seem to want to discuss further and leans back on the couch, crossing his arms. Minty shakes her head and gets up from the couch, grabbing her clipboard and writes some more things down. Smirking at Oliver as she writes.
MINTY
Hmmm...Resists...cooperation.
OLIVER
(annoyed)
I'm not resisting cooperation. I'm here to talk about Tuesday, not my father.
MINTY
(twirling her pen)
And I'm here to find out why you're being such a stereotypical teenage boy. Whining and biting back your feelings. That's not helping anyone, kid.
OLIVER
(pouty voice that decays his decline)
I'm not whining.
MINTY
Alright then...lets talk about your father some more...
Oliver thinks back to when Ace cut his cheek, how he yelled before hand as the glass hitting his face.
Oliver shuts his eyes, trying to block out the painful memory before he stands, fed up with therapy.
OLIVER
I told you I don't want to talk about my father. He has nothing to do with any of this! So if that's all you wanna talk about then I'm leaving...
Oliver goes to the door, Tuesday floats up and reaches out a hand for him.
TUESDAY
(chastising)
Oliver!
Minty stands, looking worried that he's leaving so soon.
MINTY
(a bit desperate)
Hey kid, get back here! The session's not finished yet!
OLIVER
(muttering to himself)
I don't care. I don't have to listen to some pear-shaped old lady insult me...
(to Tuesday)
Come on Tuesday, let's-
Minty's hand slams the door closed, an startles Oliver. He turns and finds Minty with a rather creepy look on her face grinning devilishly.
MINTY
(strained)
Pear-shaped...old lady...?
Oliver gulps.
MINTY
(becoming unstable)
You don't think I can do my job?
OLIVER
I didn't say that-
MINTY
You think I'm the craaaazy old lady huh? Listen here, kid, you've got a special case here...and the only way you're gonna get out of it, is with my help, or else this world is gonna chew you up and spit you out.
Oliver looks thoroughly creeped out but he stands his ground, challenging Minty.
OLIVER
You're not the only therapist around here.
MINTY
Oh so that's your attitude, huh?Well I've got a few things for you you little piece of-
INT. MINTY'S WAITING ROOM - DAY
In the waiting room, Hobs is, once again, looking at something on his computer. There's a lot of muffled yelling and loud crashes of thing being thrown around and he looks at the door, hearing the noise.
It happens all the time but he still takes off his glasses and rubs his temples.
HOBS
(trying to convince himself)
I love my job, I love my job, I love my job...
INT. MINTY'S OFFICE - DAY
Minty's going crazy, throwing things books around the room. Her desk is flipped over and Oliver is cowering in the corner, using a spare book to hit back anything that comes his way.
Tuesday stays near Oliver, all the objects passing through her.
TUESDAY
(examining her nails; smugly)
I told you we shouldn't have come.
OLIVER
Shut up, Tuesday!
Tuesday grins in an "evil" innocence as Oliver yells.
Minty goes over to the shelves, ripping through them and growling.
MINTY
And where are my freaking nuts!!!!???
Oliver perks up.
OLIVER
Nuts...?
He reaches in his pocket and pulls out the mixed nuts Yoko made him buy.
OLIVER
(timid)
Um...Dr. Osaki...?
She doesn't hear him.
OLIVER
Dr. Osaki!!!!
MINTY
What!?
OLIVER
I have some nuts.
Minty stomps over to Oliver and snatches them from him, ripping the bag open and pouring the whole bag in her mouth; crunching loudly.
Almost instantly her shoulders sag, and she looks exhausted. Dragging herself over to her desk and turning her chair upright she sits in it, sighing.
MINTY
(tired, but professional)
So...You seem to be suffering from chronic hallucinations...
Oliver blinks, shocked at what he just saw. He throws the book he was holding to the ground.
OLIVER
Hold on, hold on! What the heck is wrong with you?
MINTY
Oh that? That happens sometimes when I get angry. Nuts are the only thing that seem to calm me down.
(shrugs)
No big deal.
OLIVER
No big....No big deal!? You could've killed me!
MINTY
Oh, stop being so over-dramatic. The worst someone's gotten is a sprained wrist.
OLIVER
I'm outta here.
TUESDAY
Thank you!
MINTY
I meant what I said though. I'm the only one who can really help you. And don't want to know exactly how to get rid of your "friend"...?
Oliver turns around...and Tuesday looks worried once again.
MINTY
It's completely up to you.
Oliver sighs, feeling cheated.
MINTY
I know that doesn't sound like what you want to hear. But as much of a free agent you think this whole thing is, your imaginary friend's only there because that's what you want. And you need to figure out why you want companionship so badly you're willing to compensate for an imaginary friend at 14-years-old.
Oliver blinks, mulling over the words carefully and Tuesday looks at him in wonder.
MINTY
(looking at her watch)
So, it's 5 o'clock. Time for my disgruntled postal worker. Which means you-
(she points to Oliver)
-out of here. Now. Get back to me with an answer to that next session.
OLIVER
Next session....?
MINTY
Don't worry...you'll be back. They always come back...
Oliver turns to walk out.
MINTY
Oh, but one more thing.
OLIVER
What?
MINTY
(holds out her hand)
300 dollars.
Oliver looks shocked.
MINTY
Therapy ain't covered by health care, kid. Next time think before you catch the crazy.
Oliver sighs and takes out his wallet and pulls out the same card Ace gave him years ago.
INT. MINTY'S WAITING ROOM
Oliver walks out in a huff, and Minty closes the door behind her.
Hobs simply sits there looking like he wants to chime in and Minty rolls her eyes.
MINTY
Go ahead, say something.
HOBS
That was a pretty noisy session for walk-in client.
They both look over as Oliver steps into the elevator, talking to "someone" who's clearly not there.
HOBS
But for a walk-in he sure is...weird.
MINTY
More than weird, he's familiar. He has an imaginary friend that he can't get rid of....
Hobs's eyes widen.
HOBS
(genuinely concerned)
Think you can handle another one?
Minty turns, walking back into her office.
MINTY
I don't know....
In her office, she goes to the big window, leaning against it and looking down at the ground as Oliver walks outside.
MINTY
I guess I'm about to find out....
The serious moment breaks when Minty opens up a bag of nuts and pours the whole thing in her mouth, chomping loudly.
Cut to end of Act 2 bumper
EXT. OUTSIDE THE PSYCHOLOGY BUILDING
Oliver and Tuesday come outside and Yoko is in front.
OLIVER
Yoko? What are you doing here?
YOKO
How did things go with Aunt Minty?
OLIVER
She's utterly insane.
YOKO
So I take it you used the nuts?
OLIVER
Yeah...thanks for the tip. But why didn't you warn me your aunt was such a basket case!?
YOKO
Aunt Minty's very....odd. But she's very good at her job.
(she thinks for a bit)
Most of the time.
OLIVER
Yeah...I guess.
YOKO
Will you be going back to see her....?
Tuesday shakes her head no, but Oliver sighs, looking up at the building before nodding.
OLIVER
Yeah...
Tuesday groans.
YOKO
(smiles)
I figured.
(whispers to Oliver)
How's Tuesday taking it?
TUESDAY
(annoyed)
I can still hear her!
OLIVER
Just as I thought. Badly...
Yoko turns in the opposite direction in which Tuesday is.
YOKO
Well, Tuesday...
OLIVER
Tuesday's over here, Yoko
Oliver moves Yoko over to face Tuesday.
YOKO
Oh, thank you. Tuesday...we both just have to keep Oliver's well-being in mind.
(friendly teasing)
Cause he can be such a baby sometimes.
She pinches his cheeks, smiling devilishly.
OLIVER
(blushing in embarrassment)
Hey, Yoko, quit it.
She smiles and turns to walk off.
YOKO
See you at school tomorrow.
OLIVER
Yeah see you!
(exhausted sigh)
Let's go Tuesday.
Tuesday ignores him, giving a "hmp" with her arms crossed. Oliver rolls his eyes.
INT. SUBWAY - NIGHT
Oliver and Tuesday ride the subway back home in silence. Oliver looks around and no one's looking at him funny.
He turns to see the Hughbe from before.
HUGHBE
Where's your invisible friend?
Oliver looks a Tuesday who's still ignoring him.
OLIVER
Mad at me.
HUGHBE
Oh...
Awkward silence.
HUGHBE
Well, I hope things work out.
Oliver gives a dumbfounded look toward's Smelly Man's cooperation, but then shakes it off, slumping back.
OLIVER
Yeah...me too.
Oliver and Tuesday get off the subway, it's now early evening. As they climb up the stairs to higher ground, Oliver goes over to where he parked his motor scooter.
They ride in silence, the tension of Tuesday being upset is thick.
Oliver's scooter is parked in front of his apartment and he goes to the second floor, unlocking his door.
INT. OLIVER'S APARTMENT - NIGHT
Oliver opens the door to his apartment, turning on the lights and there's no one there, as usual. He exhales and goes to the kitchen, looking through the fridge for food.
Tuesday, still angry, floats over to the couch and floats above it, arms still crossed.
OLIVER
You have to talk to me eventually.
Oliver goes into he fridge, pulling out a plate of food covered with tin foil. He pulls off the foil and places the plate in the microwave.
OLIVER
What's the point of having you around if I can't talk to you?
TUESDAY
I thought you didn't "want" me around anymore?
OLIVER
Look, Tuesday. It's just having you around so much isn't normal. I have to look further into this.
The microwave beeps--ready. Oliver takes the food out.
TUESDAY
And going back to that crazy lady is going to help?
OLIVER
Well...yeah.
Oliver sits down with a plate of food and a drink, placing it on the pull out table in front of him, but turning to Tuesday.
OLIVER
You know...even though you constantly annoy me...and make me look crazy all the time...and you never leave...ever...
TUESDAY
A point would be nice, Oliver.
OLIVER
Still...as long as you're around,
Oliver thinks back to sitting alone during dinner yet again.
OLIVER
at least I'm not lonely....
Oliver smiles at Tuesday and she opens her mouth to say something, but then pauses and returns the smile.
He pats the spot on the couch next to him, silently beckoning her over and she sit next to him, leaning against his shoulder; eyes closed and smiling contently. Oliver looks at her fondly before turning towards he TV.
OLIVER
Wanna watch some TV?
TUESDAY
(she perks up from her comfortable daze)
Sure thing Ollie-bear!
OLIVER
(reserved and annoyed)
Tuesday come on, you know I hate being called Ollie-bear.
Tuesday smiles a bit devilishly, floating up in his face.
TUESDAY
Ollie Bear! Ollie Bear! Ollie Bear!
She floats close to his face, smirking.
TUESDAY
(whispering)
Ollie Bear.
Oliver's anger snaps.
The two continue to argue in a non-vocal representation of still shots.
OLIVER (V.O)
Life with Tuesday is always going to have it's own unique set of problems....but in the end...
The argument ends with the two of them having fallen asleep on the couch. Tuesday's curled up next to Oliver. He opens his eyes, the remotes still in his hand, but he notices Tuesday on him and simply lays there, smiling and stroking her hair fondly before falling back to sleep, the same smile still on his face.
OLIVER (V.O - CONT.)
...It's the moments I share with Tuesday that I can say....I'm happy....
